An old, old, story. It has been known, contrary to politicians, and chambers of commerce, for two thirds of the last century and all of this one so well that it has been called the “California Story”. More people do not mean more prosperity. What they mean is more cost. When you couple this with the political system in this country where local governments ‘bid’ for industry against each other upping the final cost of having them. The end result is giving away the only positive aspect of having them in the localities and that is that they pay their own way. All the services they demand so they can bring in the people that do their work cost money and yet the ‘governments’ give away that resource before they produce another way to fund the “big boom”. It is a net loss scenario and the bigger the industry the bigger the loss. A few profit growing absurdly rich in this society. Most mortgage themselves to the hilt out of necessity rather than choice and are wiped out when the Ponzi scheme comes to its forgone conclusion. Among those deeply in debt when the house of cards collapses are the local governments. A balanced economy with many branches will always be more stable than a huge unnatural presence only there until they can talk another community into ‘underbidding’ their current ‘deal’. Their guarantees go to the incinerators the minute a better deal comes along. The only guarantee is that the local communities will come out far worse for having brought them in. Greed causes it and greed drives it.
